I started wildlife photography with Nikon equipment but in 2008  I changed my preference to Canon because of autofocus speed issues. I sold my D300 and first got myself a Canon 50D and then a 1D Mark III. Right now I’m using the Canon Mark IV. Below is a brief list of equipment which I use in the field.

Canon EOS 1D MARK IV

As of March 22 2010 Mark IV will be my primary camera. I replaced it with the Canon 1D Mark III. Mark IV is an excellent camera in means of speed and accuracy. With 10 frames per second with 16MP's, this is the best camera a wildlife photographer can get these days. Also the camera can record movies at 1080p full HD.

Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM

Fast auto-focus and sharp images is the primary pros of this lens. The image stabilization (IS) works very accurately. It’s big and heavy but does the job right.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM

This new ultra wide lens is great for landscapes, indoor shoots and more. It’s fast and super sharp.

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

With Canon's second generation Image Stabilization technology, this lens is an excellent allaround lens. You can obtain very sharp images even with slow shutter speeds.

Canon 180mm 3.5L USM Macro Lens

Canon 180mm macro lens is the Canon's longest macro lens. It's a very sharp and quiet lens for macro photography. Also being a long macro lens gives the photographer an advantage of shooting shy objects such as butterflies from a distance.

Canon Speedlite 580EX II

I still can’t use the canon flash systems like I do with my Nikon equipment. Its hard to make adjustments and the final work is not satisfying for me.

Canon Powershot G11

This high end compact digital camera is one of the best compact cameras out in the market. It can shoot RAW images and can be used with Canon's Digital Photo Professional program. The image quality is increased with the Digic 4 image processor. You can also use the camera in full manual modes. Overall this is a very high quality compact camera.

Canon WP-DC34 Housing

If you don't want to spend a fortune on an underwater housing for the Mark IV this is the one for you. This housing made for the Canon G11 and has all the control buttons. It can go as far as 40 meters in depth.

Manfrotto 410 Tripod Head

This is a very good quality and precise equipment for macro photography. It's 3 way geared had gives you movement on 3 axis without locking and unlocking the knobs. So when you reach you desired position you just have to let go. There's an also a second knob on every axis which makes large corrections possible

Gitzo G1325 Mountaineer Carbon Fiber Tripod

When using a large lenses like 500 f/4, a sturdy and reliable tripod is a must. Carbon fiber makes the tripod very light and easy to carry. Additionally it doesn’t have a center column so you can get very low angle shots.

Manfrotto 393 Tripod Head & 357PLV quick Realese

HyperDrive Space 120GB Back-Up Memory

In the field you need extra storage other then memory cards. This gadget will save up to 120gb of information while on the go. I can transfer 4gb of files in less then 4 minutes. The newer versions are also very good.

Tamrac Expedition 9x Backpack

This backpack is large enough for the 500f/4 fitted on a pro dslr. Also second camera and lenses can be fitted at the same time. It has many small pouches for accessories...

Garmin Oregon 300 GPS

Garmin Oregon 300 series is a very usefull gps unit. The dimensions, weight and the build quality is very satisfying. The touchscreen is easy to use and makes no mistakes. Only downside of the unit is the brightness of the screen is not enough for harsh daylight.

Wacom Intuos4 Pen Tablet

This new pressure sensitive tablet from Wacom is my most powerfull tool when post processing photographs. Selecting specific areas is very easy and fun. This tablet is the number one choice of graphic designers. You can customize the buttons for different programs like Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator etc...
